The Story and Vision Behind Burgeon Barbell
My first time in a gym was in 2014 right after the birth of my daughter. I started out like many moms with the desire to regain my physique after pregnancy. Fortunately, while trying to find my way around the gym, an experienced powerlifter introduced me to the barbell and the sport of powerlifting. Despite receiving feedback along the way about how resistance training was going to turn me into a vanity crazed male, I persisted long enough to experience quite a different transformation.
Strength training has not only empowered me as a woman it has instilled in me a growth mindset that I’ve since applied to life outside the gym. Competing in powerlifting has also allowed me to participate in a community of people who genuinely want to see other people succeed. My experience in the strength community has been so beneficial that I knew after a significant hip injury that I wanted to find a way to continue to participate. A few weeks after hip surgery I began taking classes towards a master’s degree in Kinesiology with the intention of using my knowledge to help others realize their own strength potential.
